Stages of Painting Furniture at Home Without Sanding

If you have decided to paint unsanded furniture, you can follow the steps below.

Thoroughly clean the furniture you will paint with warm soapy water.

Use a soft sponge for this. Clean the furniture from detergent and dry it thoroughly.

Prepare the paint you will use.

For this, read the instructions on the paint. Acrylic paints do not add water. For this reason, you can transfer it directly to a container and start with a brush.

Wear gloves before starting to paint

Acrylic paint on hands will wash off, but it would still be better not to come into direct contact with a chemical product.

After making sure that the floor you will paint is thoroughly dry, you can apply primer paint to the surface.

You can use a brush for this. Paint the furniture a coat and let it dry. For this, consider the time written on the primer paint. Do not start painting before it is thoroughly dry.

After enough time has passed, you can start painting.

Sponge rollers suitable for acrylic paints will make your work easier. Always apply paint to the surface in the same direction. Be sure to apply the same amount of paint so that it is even.

Decide if a second coat is needed after the first coat is completely dry.

In general, a second or third coat of paint may be required in dark to light colors.

Tips for Painting Furniture at Home

Be sure to clean the surface before you start painting. Soapy water will suffice for this.

Experiment on the surface you are going to paint. Try the paint on an invisible part of the furniture. Wait a day. The next day, try to remove the paint with your fingernail. If it is not dismantled, it means that it is possible to paint furniture without sandpaper, you can paint your furniture with peace of mind.

If your scratch test fails, you must use sandpaper. Sand the surface lightly with sandpaper and wipe the surface with a cloth. Then you can start painting.

Sanding is recommended for completely glossy surfaces.

You should not apply the paint as a thick layer on the surface. A thick layer will not only prevent the paint from drying out, but if you want to put a new layer on top of that layer, your job will be difficult. For a more professional look, you should apply the paint in thin layers.

How to Paint Dark Furniture White?

You don't need to sand when painting dark furniture, either. Just like we explained above, you can paint your furniture by applying the same methods. The most important point to note here is that the primer paint is a must and you need to paint several coats. After applying the primer, wait as long as you should and apply the first coat of paint. Wait 24 hours after the first coat, then apply another coat. Probably in 2-3 coats the surface will be completely covered.
